ARTIST STATEMENT

Art has always been a part of me, as far back as I can remember. My work is broken, chaotic, and irregular—just like life itself. Life is never smooth and usgar coated, it comes with challenges of its own. This is reality, in its purest and roughest form, in which you can see the a mix of strength and beauty. My journey with art began after a life-altering experience—I was diagnosed with near-fatal cancer. In my darkest and most vulnerable moments, art became my healer. It gave me a voice when words felt impossible, and a way to express the depths of my pain and resilience. Physically and emotionally shattered, art was my therapy, my sanctuary.Since that turning point, my work has evolved, telling the story of my journey through every brushstroke. From old architecture to faces, all depicted with colours and shapes and through rough brush strokes, my art has found homes across the globe. Each painting carries a fragment of my life experiences, my struggles, and my triumphs.

In 1999, after relocating to Hong Kong, I discovered the expressive and fluid style of "Xie Yi" (Chinese expressive painting), which continues to influence my technique even today. This style, with its spontaneous, broken, and irregular brushstrokes, mirrors the turbulence of my life—especially during my return to India in 2011, a time marked by my battle with near-fatal colon cancer. The experience of coming back to India reignited a profound love for my homeland, a sentiment that is reflected in the subjects I paint.Through every piece, you can trace the essence of my personal narrative—the healing, the chaos, the beauty, and the strength. My work is a testament to life’s resilience, where imperfection becomes an integral part of the whole.

Creating value - My personal journey has helped me truly understand the intersections of physical & mental health and art. To create value further and to give back to the society, since March 2017, I have been volunteering as an art therapist for chemotherapy patients at Max Hospital in Delhi.

Further, I also conduct regular art sessions at my studio in Gurgaon and have taught 100s of students all over the world, and all ages ranging from 7 years to 80 years. At present I have almost 40 students all ages, learning art from me.
